They have won the Greensboro, NC based Piedmont Preservation Blues Society Blues Challenge and also the Durham based Triangle Blues Society Blues Challenge. They competed and placed in the semi finals of the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis, TN.
Their brand of high energy brings a charismatic mix of blues, funk, and beach music for your entertainment pleasure and are one of the hardest working bands even during this time when Covid-19 virtually shut down the industry.
Cory Luetjen (pronounced “Loot Chin”) is the singer, front man, guitarist, and songwriter of the band. His career began when he started playing at area blues jams and gained a knowledge of the blues. He has toured nationally with country acts gaining experience and guitar experience. His exposure to beach music occured when he was a radio DJ.
The band includes:Jonathan "Toots" Link- Saxophone, who found his love of music starting in the 5th grade and knew starting middle school that he wanted to play saxophone. No one else in his family had been musically inclined. He continued learning, practicing, and playing at every opportunity all through high school, winning several awards in his journey. Jonathan has performed with many local bands on a professional level for all occasions and eventually met Cory at an open jam one night several years ago. Jonathan had been looking for a band home and found it in Cory Luetjen and The Traveling Blues Band.
Deon "Smiley" McNeil- drums- was raised in church, where he became interested in the drums. He would sit next to his father along with guest drummers and watch them play during services. While in college he focused on basketball, but when different circumstances came about, music started calling his name. Returning to his interest in the drums, his passion for playing grew. He began playing with local acts, bands, and churches, eventually meeting Cory Luetjen and things really began to take off musically and the story goes on....
Patrick "Sticky Fingers" Harrison-guitar and bass- Patrick's love of music started at 2 years old. He loved playing drums. When he turned 4, his family discovered that he had a knack for singing. As he grew older, he worked more on vocal skills. At age 11, he began teaching himself keyboard and later picked up saxophone during high school. Then, at age 16, he began his journey on guitar and bass. His passion for music and performing continued over the years and he is a talented multi-instrumentalist.
This high energy, crowd-pleasing and foot-tapping band plays all over the Southeastern United States and are now ready to expand! This power house blues machine produces a wall of sound that rivals the likes of Delbert McClinton, Robert Cray, and Gregg Allman. Their brand of high energy brings a charismatic mix of Blues, Funk, and Beach music that guarantees a good time!
Cory Luetjen & The Traveling Band appearances include: Carolina Theatre, High Point Art Council-Arts Splash, Shelby Jeans and Gibby’s at Carolina Beach,NC Deckerz at Myrtle Beach, SC, Firefest-Starr, NC, Grove Winery, Ham’s Palladium,Westbend Winery & Brewery, Loochfest, Old North Star Winery, Southeast Brewing,Red Oak Brewery, Ramseur Fall Festival, Oysterfest, and many more including private events and weddings.
They also have a current CD out called “Just the Blue Notes” which is climbing the charts. Listen to it at "Just the Blue Notes" and Cory wrote all the songs. Last year this active band released another CD called “Break Ups and Breakdowns” where their beach hit, “My Baby Just Loves to Shag” is featured.
